Hazard classification decides the design before any component is chosen. Light hazard, ordinary hazard and extra hazard each demand a different discharge density and sprinkler spacing, and a garment factory with bale storage is not the light hazard occupancy its floor plan suggests. Designing to the wrong class produces a system that passes inspection on paper and underperforms in a real fire.

Water supply is the constraint that most projects underestimate. A sprinkler system is only as good as the tank capacity and pump pressure behind it, and the hydraulic calculation has to prove flow at the most remote head, not at the riser. We quote the storage and pump set alongside the pipework for that reason.

Retrofitting an occupied factory costs more than building the system in, mostly in the disruption of running pipe above live production lines. Where a plant is expanding, it is cheaper to pipe the new bay than to come back to it.
