Relief Aid Hand Pumps
We manufacture hand pumps and export them in bulk and against tender to water programmes, aid agencies, rural water authorities and district governments across Africa.
The range covers deep well lever-action pumps, direct action pumps for shallow boreholes, suction pumps for hand-dug wells, treadle pumps for irrigation, rising mains and pump rods in galvanised steel and stainless, cylinder assemblies, and the seal, bearing and rod kits they consume.
Standardisation across a district matters more than the merits of any individual pump. A district running four different pump types needs four spare parts inventories and four sets of trained mechanics, and in practice ends up with none of them, which is why so many boreholes stand broken within a hundred metres of a village that could have fixed them. Choosing one pump type across a programme area is the single decision that keeps pumps working.
Depth decides the pump. Direct action pumps work to roughly 15 metres; past that a lever-action deep well pump is needed, and ordering the wrong one wastes a drilled borehole. Send the pumping water level from the drilling log rather than the total depth, since the two are rarely the same.
Spare parts are the real deliverable. We quote a pump with a multi-year spares package, including the seals and bearings that fail first, rather than the pump alone, and the parts list is keyed so a mechanic can order without a catalogue.
Rural water programmes across Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique account for most demand.
