A hose ramp exists so that a charged hose line can cross a road without being crushed and without closing the road. At an incident that is the difference between keeping an access route open and blocking the only route your own appliances need. Fire services buy them per appliance rather than per station for exactly that reason.

Deployment speed is the specification nobody writes down and everybody notices. A ramp that takes two crew and a minute to position is a ramp that does not get used under pressure, so weight and handle placement matter more than the catalogue suggests. We would rather supply a lighter ramp that one firefighter can carry and set in seconds than a heavier one with a higher load rating that stays on the truck.

Channel size has to take the hose at working pressure, which is larger than the hose diameter at rest.
