Traffic Road Studs

We manufacture road studs and export them in bulk and against tender to highway authorities, road contractors, airports and mining operations across Africa.

The range covers reflective road studs in aluminium, plastic and ceramic bodies, solar powered LED studs in single and double sided versions, spike-fixed and adhesive-fixed types, raised and recessed profiles, and the epoxy adhesive and installation tooling that go with them.

Solar and reflective studs solve the same problem at very different prices. A reflective stud throws back a vehicle's own headlights and costs very little; a solar stud emits its own light, is visible several hundred metres further out, and costs many times more. On an unlit rural highway with heavy night traffic the solar stud earns its price at bends and junctions; along a straight urban road with street lighting it rarely does. We would rather quote a mixed installation than the same stud for the whole route.

Fixing method decides service life more than body material. A spike-fixed stud survives on a road surface that flexes and on a route with heavy axle loads; adhesive alone lifts within a season under those conditions, taking a plug of surface with it.

Studs are consumables on a live road, so a replacement stock should be ordered with the installation rather than later. A route left with gaps in its studding is read by drivers as the end of the marked section, which is worse than no studs at all.

Highway authorities and contractors in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia make up most demand.
