Agricultural procurement runs on tenders. State agriculture departments, subsidy and mechanisation schemes, cooperative federations, agricultural universities and rural development agencies all buy through competitive bidding, often in large annual lots. China supplies a substantial share of the equipment behind those contracts.
This guide covers the sub-categories most commonly tendered and what each demands from a supplier.
Agricultural hand tools manufacturers in China
Hand tool lots are typically the highest-volume, lowest-value line items in an agriculture tender — sickles, khurpis, hand hoes, weeders, spades, pruning shears, grafting knives and seed drills for manual use.
Specification points that decide acceptance:
- Forged rather than pressed construction, stated explicitly
- Carbon content and hardness on cutting edges, with test certificates
- Handle material and fitment method
- Anti-corrosion finish suitable for humid storage
- Individual poly-bagging where tools go into farmer distribution kits
Because these lots often feed subsidy distribution, packaging and per-unit labelling matter as much as the tool itself. Scheme rules frequently require the department name, scheme year and unit price printed on the pack.
Agricultural machinery manufacturers in China
The broader machinery category covers tractor-mounted implements, self-propelled units and stationary farm equipment. Chinese production is concentrated in Shandong, Henan and Jiangsu, with Weifang and Luoyang as the principal hubs.
Cross-cutting tender requirements:
- Test reports from a recognised farm machinery testing institute. Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute report; in the EU, type approval documentation. Many tenders will not accept a foreign test report, meaning the machine must be tested locally before it can be supplied at scale.
- Tractor compatibility stated in PTO horsepower, three-point linkage category and PTO speed.
- Spare parts availability for a defined period, often five to ten years, backed by a written undertaking.
- Service network within the buyer's state or region.
Tillage equipment manufacturers in China
Ploughs, cultivators, rotavators, disc harrows, subsoilers, levellers and seed-cum-fertiliser drills. Tender specifications here are dimensional and material-driven:
- Number of tines, blades or discs, and their spacing
- Working width and working depth
- Blade material — boron steel is commonly specified for rotavator blades
- Frame section size and thickness
- Gearbox type and bearing brand
- Matching tractor HP range
Rotavators are the most frequently tendered tillage item and the one where blade quality varies most between factories. Ask for the blade steel grade and hardness certificate separately from the machine certificate.
Agricultural sprayer manufacturers in China
Sprayer tenders cover knapsack sprayers (manual and battery), power sprayers, HTP sprayers, boom sprayers and increasingly drone sprayers.
Points to check:
- Tank capacity and material, with UV-stabilised HDPE commonly specified
- Pump type, working pressure and discharge rate
- Nozzle types and quantity supplied per unit
- Battery voltage, capacity and cycle life on battery models
- Motor rating and protection class
- Compliance with pesticide-application safety standards
Battery sprayers dominate subsidy scheme tenders. The battery is the failure point, so specify the cell chemistry and demand a separate battery warranty.
Harvesting machine manufacturers in China
Reapers, reaper binders, combine harvesters, threshers, maize shellers and forage harvesters. These are high-value line items where evaluation is technical rather than price-led.
Specify and verify:
- Cutting width and header type
- Engine make, rating and emission compliance
- Grain tank capacity and unloading arrangement
- Threshing and cleaning loss percentages, which tenders often cap
- Track or wheel configuration for the intended terrain
- Operator safety features and cabin requirements
Power tiller manufacturers in China
Power tillers remain a mechanisation scheme staple. Tender specifications typically state:
- Engine horsepower band, most often 8–15 HP
- Diesel or petrol, and emission norm compliance
- Gearbox: number of forward and reverse speeds
- Rotary width and blade count
- Weight and turning radius
- Attachments supplied: rotavator, trailer, pump, ridger
Confirm whether the tender requires the engine and tiller from the same manufacturer, as split sourcing can invalidate a bid.
Irrigation equipment manufacturers in China
Drip systems, sprinkler systems, HDPE and PVC piping, valves, filters, fittings and solar pump sets. Irrigation tenders are usually turnkey — you supply, install and commission.
Specification density is high:
- Pipe class and pressure rating
- Emitter discharge rate and spacing
- Filtration type and mesh rating
- UV resistance for surface-laid components
- Pump head, discharge and solar panel wattage on solar sets
- Warranty on panels, typically 20–25 years, and on pumps, typically 5 years
Solar irrigation tenders often carry local-content or domestic manufacturing requirements that restrict how much of the system can be imported. Read the local-content clause before bidding.
Documentation checklist for agricultural tenders
- Manufacturer's Authorisation Form naming the tender
- ISO 9001 for the production unit
- Applicable test institute report
- Emission compliance certificate for engine-driven equipment
- Spare parts price list with availability undertaking
- Service centre details in the buyer's region
- Performance certificates from comparable past supplies
- Demonstration unit, where a field trial is part of evaluation
Lead time reality
Implements and hand tools run 30–50 days in production. Engine-driven machinery runs 45–75 days, longer if the engine specification is non-standard. Add sea freight and clearance. Agricultural tenders are seasonal and delivery windows are tied to sowing or harvest, so late delivery penalties are common and enforced. Plan backwards from the field season, not forwards from the purchase order.
